Minotaur 01h00 - The Minotaur Series
Bronze on teak
Limited edition /13
Dimension: 32 x 21cm
At 01h00, this youngest Minotaur stands at the edge of her world, looking out. Her toy rests behind her, marking her immersion in her own universe of innocence and imagination. She is unconcerned with the rules and opinions of society. She is untainted by urgings to be anything other than she is. She is merely herself, whole and pure.
The Minotaur Series expresses the concept of balancing energies. This half-animal half-human character is a counterpoint to the conquering aggressor of Greek mythology. While the creature of myth has the body of a man and the head of a bull, this minotaur has the body of a woman and the head of the more elegant, and wilder, wildebeest. In different stages of her life cycle, and in various acts of intimacy, she symbolizes innocence, promise, mystery, nature, beauty, raw power, defiance, and decay. She is at once both utterly wild and utterly human. She has been marginalized and pushed into the corners. Her humanity, her vulnerability, and her power are a challenge to the dominant yang culture of linear reductionist independence. She stands at the dawning of a new age.
